The suspects in the deadly bombing at a shrine in Bangkok last year have shown the Military Court marks of torture on their bodies. “I’m not an animal. I’m human. I’m human,” one of the suspects repeated.

On Tuesday, 17 May 2016, Reuters reported that Adem Karadag, a Chinese ethnic Uighur, and one of the suspects in the deadly 2015 Erawan shrine bombing, struggled and chanted to the media while officials were escorting him into the Military Court.

“I’m not an animal. I’m human. I’m human,” Adem tearfully told the media.

According to Reuters, Adem, with tears in his eyes, lifted his shirt to show the marks of torture on his body to the Military Court. He told the Court that he had been tortured twice in prison in the past month.

Yusufu Mieraili, the other suspect in the case, also stoically spoke to the media asking for help while officials were taking him from a prison van to the Court, Reuters reported.

"We're innocent, help us, help us, where are the human rights?" Reuters quoted Mieraili as saying.

Reuters also reported that Choochart Kanpai, the lawyer for the two, said that the Court will investigate Adem’s torture and will consider a request to move him to another prison. More than 250 witnesses will be summoned in the case. Choochart hoped that the trial would be over by the end of 2016, but it could be delayed.
