About 50 people, led by the Assembly for the Defence of Democracy (AFDD), a group of pro-electoral democracy academics, organized an anti-martial law activity on Thursday evening, which suddenly turned into an anti-coup event after learning that the military had seized power at 5 pm on Thursday.    Puangthong R.

  The National Peace and Order Maintenance Council (NPOMC), a special security body led by coup maker Army Chief Prayuth Chan-ocha, announced several orders early on Friday morning which aim at limiting the freedom of expression and information of Thai citizens.   These measures were added after many TV channels and radio stations were forced to stop broadcasting their own programmes and only relay signals from the army’s TV and radio stations.

The National Peacekeeping Committee issued the 5th announcement annulling the 2007 constitution, ending the caretaker cabinet but still leaving senators, courts and independent agencies functioning.  The Section 2 in the constitution regarding the monarchy was also not nullified.

The coup makers announed on Thurday 5.20pm in its 4th announcement ordering all TV stations, radio stations, cable and sattelite TV stations to relay signals from the Army's TV and radio stations.

  Under the century-old martial law declared by the army, a special body, set up on Wednesday to be responsible for internet censorship, vowed to shut down websites in an hour.    The body is composed of representatives from the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), the police, and the army’s special peacekeeping body, the Peace and Order Maintaining Command (POMC).

  The Supreme Court on Wednesday morning ruled not to allow a trial with additional witnesses, submitted by the plaintiff in the case of the disappearance of Somchai Neelapaijit, a Muslim human rights lawyer.
